Summer season in the Jizera Mountains

The summer season is the ideal time for walking and cycling. Jizera Mountains is for recreational cyclists and families with children, a good place for active relaxation. The highest mountain in the Jizera Mountains, Smrk, offers the first single track mountain bike trail in the country, which follows existing trails and is intended for recreational terrain cyclists. The Jizera Mountains offers transportation of bicycles in bike buses that will deliver you comfortably to your destination.

Hiking and hill walking are very popular summer activities. Hikers can make use of the dense network of marked footpaths. In the Jizera Mountains the project “the Jizera Mountain hiking track” (Jizerská magistrála) has been implemented with the purpose of increasing the comfort of movement for walkers and opening up the lesser known places in these mountains.

Winter season in the Jizera Mountains

The Jizera Mountains are popular among cross-country skiers. More than 170 km of cross-country ski tracks are prepared for classical skiing and skating. One of the most popular cross country ski routes in the Czech Republic, the Jizerská magistrála, has 23 starting points and its tracks bring you to every corner of the mountains, its nature reserve, view towers and reservoirs. Since 1968, an international long-distance 50km ski race, the Jizerska 50, has been taking place, which constitutes part of the world league in Nordic distance skiing – Worldloppet. The Jizera Mountains are not just a paradise reserved for cross-country skiers, for they also welcome downhill skiers and snowboarders. Tanvaldský Špičák, Rejdice and Bedřichov or Janov nad Nisou are just some of the ski centres in the Jizera Mountains which offer downhill pistes for beginners and experienced skiers. In Bedřichov it is possible to try a down hill decent in a kayak or raft, or even snowkiting – the combined use of a snowboard and kite. In winter season, the Jizera Mountains provide ski-buses that will take you to the required mountain resorts.

The city of Liberec can boast of the modern cross-country ski centre in Vesec, which, alongside with the ski-jump centre on Ještěd, hosted the Nordic Ski Championship 2009, the Games of Youth Winter Olympics 2010, or the European Youth Olympic Winter Festival EYOWF 2011. The resort Břízky in Jablonec nad Nisou provides maintained cross-country ski trails including an illuminated ring for night skiing.

In 2010, a new sport resort was established in the village of Jeřmanice, near Liberec. Apart from a bobsleigh run you can use a four-person chairlift, a ski-run for beginners, a snowpark, and a ski-cross slope.

Relaxation  in the Jizera Mountains

Only two cities in the Liberec Region are awarded the status of healing spas – the Libverda Spa and the Kundratice Spa near the city Liberec. Their atmosphere however is very different from that of the world-famous spas in West Bohemia.

Both spa towns offer a quiet, friendly and personal staff approach and the premises are surrounded by wilderness. Nightlife and expensive shopping centres are not the philosophy of these spas. Guests will be pleasantly surprised by the reasonable prices and see that the spas, although small, can keep up to date with modern healing procedures. You will also certainly be delighted by the offer of weekend stays and discounted stays out of peak season.

The Libverda Spa, in the foothills of the Jizera Mountains, has been famous for its mineral healing sources since the 14th century. Together with its healing procedures you can enjoy various types of baths, wraps, massages and rituals with chocolate or honey in the newly built health centre. If you prefer to relax in a more active way, you will find starting points for trips into the Jizera Mountains in the vicinity of the town. The possibility of trips to our neighbouring countries, Poland or Zittau in Germany, add an interesting dimension to your stay here.

The second spa town of the Liberec Region, the Kundratice Spa, is located in the area around Ještěd, known as Podještědí. It is one of the oldest spas in Bohemia and the healing agent used is sulphur-ferric peat. Thanks to its location, the Kundratice Spa is an ideal place for guests with locomotive organs disorder.
